Welcome to My Home Page

Hi there and Welcome to my site.

The main reason for this site is so that I can tell you a bit about the great music of the 50s and 60s.
Also my love for motorbikes.

'Motorbikes' and Rock 'n' Roll

I am no expert in music, I just know what I like, I lived and danced through the 50's and 60's also some of the 70s and I was proud to do so. They were the times when you could go dancing any night of the week at the local dance hall. Also you would find a jukebox in every cafe and coffee bar. There was pop music wherever you went, at home and in the streets. Coffee Bars, Ice cream Parlours and Pubs.

These were the times of people like Tommy Steel, Elvis Presley, Billy Fury, Marty Wilde, Joe Brown and many, many more. The films of those decades were mainly based on music and musicals. What a fantastic life I had in London in those days. I wish the young today could only have what we had back then. I still collect vinyl records from the 50s and 60s and exchange or sell them from time to time. I was born and brought up in North London, Finsbury Park area. bit on the rough side and you had to be street wise to survive. That was no problem for me as I was a bit of a nutter in those days. Looking for fights and gang fights all the time. I also used to go to the Finsbury Park Empire and see the great stars live.

My mother owned a motorcycle shop (Brookers Motorcycles) that she inherited from my dad in 1948. We had the first shop in Stroud Green Road, Finsbury Park and the second shop in Queens Parade, Harringay. She had to keep things going to survive for herself as well as my brother and I.

The reason I am telling you this is to give you an understanding of how I met so many people in show business. As my mum built the business up, we became the main North London Dealer for Triumph Motorcycles. As such she had to do a lot of entertaining. One of the first people I can remember was Johnny Allen from the USA. He broke the land speed record for two wheels in 1958. That was in Salt Lake Flats, USA.
What a great guy, a man after my own heart. We had the pleasure of having him with us for two weeks. But we were warned he has a mind of his own, and does whatever he wants to do.After only two days he went missing for three days and nights. When he came back he said that all this stiff shirt stuff was not for him, so he disappeared up the West End and stayed there with some Lady friend.? All the top knobs at Triumph were going mad when he could not be found and the police were not too happy either, but he didn't care.

Another one was the star of The Man from Interpol a TV serial from the early sixties. He sure loved himself. He made himself at home for three days and that was three days too long.

The next I got to know was Eddie Calvert the trumpet player who we met at a friends pub off Tottenham Court Road.He was a great guy - he even played at my wedding for me.

Then there was Des O'Connor who lived in the next road when I was younger.Max Bygraves who gave my cousin and myself prizes at the Queen's Coronation street party. Alfie Bass who my mum went to school with and lived in the same road as us for many years.

Then was one of my cousins who played with the Swinging Blue Jeans before they became famous and I got to know many more in the music industry through the years. In the 70's I was a Bouncer at a club in a town near me, which gave me an oppertunety to meet many more stars. So I consider myself extremely lucky to have met and known so many great people.

Keeping Your Cool

Whether you are on a Motorbike or just driving your car, the main thing is to be cool. 'COOL', in charge of the machine you are driving. Never panic.

Tips

Most bikes now come with a clearcoat finish, which tricks owners into thinking they don't need wax. Actually, you should wax your bike 3-4 times a year. Most manufacturers also recommend washing your bike once a week.
